No matter what physical or mental improvements you’re aiming for, there’s a yoga pose to help.
You don’t have to twist yourself into an upside-down pretzel to reap the benefits of yoga. While some experienced yogis can accomplish moves that seriously challenge their strength and balance, there are a wide range of poses and sequences that are gentle enough for beginners.
Yoga accomplishes so many things — improving strength, flexibility and balance; decreasing stress and pain; and relaxing overtaxed muscles and minds. Even a short session of gentle stretching and rhythmic breathing can make you feel better.
If you’ve considered adding a little lotus or downward dog into your life, September is National Yoga Month. What better time to try some of My Southern Health’s simple (read: no upside-down pretzel) moves? Try these sequences for:
- Relieving chronic pain.
- Reducing headache pain.
- Improving sleep.
- Inner strength (think of this as finding emotional stability in a stressful world.)
Namaste.
