The kids are busier than ever with school activities and homework. But then fall break blows in, and you’re left scrambling to figure out ways to entertain them that won’t leave your bank account as bare as the tree branches in winter. Don’t worry! We’ve compiled a quick list of fun, wallet-friendly things to do in Nashville or nearby that involve little prep and planning. In fact, you can do them all.
Scarecrows, trains, and pumpkins? Oh my!
Cheekwood Harvest celebrates autumn with its epic scarecrow collection. Flower enthusiasts young and old will love the Mum Explosion, with more than 5,000 chrysanthemums. Also, don’t miss the Pumpkin Houses — there are two for exploring this year! — and the fourth annual Halloween Pooch Parade, where you can bring you pup from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 26.

Got a rainy day? Missing the pool? Take your little explorers to the Adventure Science Center. The center’s permanent exhibit, Destination Exploration, is fun for little ones and parents.
Be a-mazed
Lucky Ladd Farms in Eagleville is the place to go to explore the twists and turns of a corn maze. This year, guests can travel through miles of winding paths in a corn maze that tributes the classic “Circle of Life” family movie. Average time to complete is 30 minutes. Complete one or all three of the Games in the Maze. The Corn Maze is open through Nov. 1.
