According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 50 million Americans suffer from allergies each year. It’s not uncommon for your favorite Southern dishes to include top allergens such as milk, fish, shellfish and wheat.

There is no medication to prevent food allergies, so identifying and avoiding the allergy-causing food is important. Allison Norton, M.D., of the Vanderbilt Asthma, Sinus and Allergy Relief Program, provides tips on how to diagnose and take care of food allergies.
