Research shows music education programs help students excel in school
The benefits of music education are hitting a high note in some American schools.
One University of Kansas study showed that in addition to increasing test scores, music training can help with a child’s basic memory recall, cognitive strength and verbal recall proficiency. High-quality music programs, as established by National Association of Music Education national standards, had higher-performing students than those with low-quality programs.
Music can also be a powerful force in the lives of people with Williams syndrome. Carrie Underwood, Darius Rucker, Wynonna Judd and more music stars with the Academy of Country Music connect with young people with this autism spectrum disorder at an annual specialized camp that takes place at Vanderbilt.
